JOHN MEAD

John began life in the market gardening community of Pukekohe and Bombay, South Auckland. After qualifying as a diesel mechanic in the early 1960s, John embarked on his OE, an activity that lasted 8 years, covering many countries, the last three years of which were spent in Toronto, Canada after marrying Diana in Maine, USA.

Since returning to New Zealand in 1970 he and Diana spent 30 years living in Whangarei where John was involved in a number of activities, mainly in people management (human resources) and sales (commercial real estate).

After moving to Auckland in 2001 because of Diana’s involvement in tertiary education, John continued his real estate career on the North Shore until retiring in 2010.

In 2016 John and Diana moved to Waiheke having sold their city home and commenced building a new home on their Palm Beach property that they had owned since 2003.Community activities have always been of interest. Both John and Diana are volunteers on the Garden to Table programme at Te Huruhi School and in early 2020 John was invited to join the Electric Island Waiheke team, a demanding role as the island becomes more involved in alternative energy, particularly electric vehicles.

KEN PATTERSON

Ken Patterson arrived back in New Zealand in 2010 after having spent the better part of 20 years living in Tuscany Italy working as a stone mason. He went about creating "Bella Vista Tile & Stone" in 2011 offering feature stone walls and tiling services with some of his highlight work visible at Nikau Art Galley and along the water front of Shelly Beach.

2013 recognised  "Clean Green Lawnmowing" at its nascent stage and went on to develop a service that at its core appies the 3 R's concept to lawn care - reduce-reuse-recycle.  Lawn mowing is a highly polluting service especially when 2-stroke engines are used to power equipment. It is also noisy.

By 2018 Clean Green had acquired a selection of battery powered equipment, trialling different brands and selecting those that preformed best for the business model.

This year, 2020, Ken started to promote a fully battery powered lawn care service. This was possible with the acquisition of a Japanese import Nissan eNV200 van. The EV even has on board  power outlets that permit charging of mowers and line trimmer batteries on the go -eliminating the "range anxiety syndrome".

He is now pleased to use his skills to help Electric Island Waiheke achieve its goals.
